Dear Parent/Guardian,

Continuing with our exciting creative curriculum this term we will be starting with a unit on traditional tales focusing on ‘Beauty and the Beast’. We will learn, re-tell and act out the story.  Work will be done on characters, plot and setting, we will be writing our own version of the story and making our very own storytelling movies!

Following this we will be starting a theme called ‘Daring Dinosaurs’ This will kick start with a visit to ‘Dinosaur World’ in Torquay where the children will be introduced to their new topic in an exciting, fun and educational way!  During this theme the children will spend time researching the history of the dinosaurs, exploring prehistoric lands, investigating the habitats and diet of the dinosaurs, doing dinosaur dance in P.E and singing and learning dinosaur songs as well as lots of dinosaur art including creating our very own 3-D dinosaurs! We will learn and re-tell a story from the ’Harry & the dinosaurs’ series, write a non –chronological report on dinosaurs and enjoy reading and exploring some dinosaur poems.

The outcome of this theme will be a Year 2 dinosaur museum at the end of the spring term!  More details will follow nearer the time.  As always, we will be covering a wide range of skills in our daily maths and literacy lessons.  ICT skills are taught through cross-curricular work and each class has a weekly session with the school laptops.

This term your child will be working on the targets below, your help with these at home would be very much appreciated.  The children will continue to receive weekly spellings that will link to their daily phonics sessions; again your support with learning these at home will be much appreciated.
