Dear Parent/Guardian,
Welcome back to the spring term and our brand new classrooms!  The theme for our creative curriculum this term is Holidays. It will include work based around Torquay and we will compare Torquay to other countries around the world. We have started our topic with a visit from a travel agent and designing and making cocktails, which the children thoroughly enjoyed.  The topic will culminate in creating a model of a holiday resort and promoting their resort to our buddy classes.

We have been really impressed with the children’s transition from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2.  They have settled in very well and are becoming independent and confident learners.

Work at Home

We will continue to hand out homework and spellings on a Friday and will test them the following Friday. Homework is due into school by the following Wednesday. The children benefit greatly from your support at home.

We thank you for your support in hearing your child read at home and ask that you continue to do this each evening and sign their ‘Home School Contact Book’ when they have read.  These are checked every day and housepoints awarded.

Reminders

Please remember our learning starts directly after the register is taken at 8.50am. Children who arrive late are missing important information and part of the first lesson. Therefore could you please make every effort to ensure your child is on the playground, ready to line up with their class, at 8.45am.

PLEASE can you make sure your child has a PE kit which should remain in school until half term. A school PE kit consists of shorts, a t-shirt and trainers or plimsols. In the colder months, please ensure that your child also has some warmer clothes for outdoor sessions.  It does not need to be a specific make or colour, but please ensure your child has PE shoes that are comfortable. Swimming will begin next week.  Please ensure your child has a swimming costume and towel in a waterproof bag.

If your child has not already brought in indoor shoes or slippers, please could you send some in next week so that the children can enjoy the luxury of the under floor heating!

Finally, we would like to remind you that we are always available to talk to you about any queries that you may have. We check home school contact books each day, so messages always reach us or appointments can be made through the office.

Thank you for your continued support.
