Inclusion Flagship Quality Mark

posted 24 Nov 2013, 13:31 by Stephen Eccles   [ updated 24 Nov 2013, 13:31 ]

In October 2013 Mrs Young and Mrs Farrell attended a ceremony in London to be awarded the Inclusion Flagship Quality Mark to recognise the Inclusive practice and ethos within the school.

The assessor Barbara Curry reported:

Barton Hill Academy is a very good school and improving. Its passionate leaders and committed staff will not rest until it has achieved an “Outstanding” rating, and it is held in high regard in its community. Its pupils are hard-working and motivated. No child is left

unsupported and every child is aware of being nurtured in a combination of high expectations and all the help they need to succeed. Pupils take responsibility for their own progress and behaviour. “It’s almost impossible for a child here to go under the radar,” said one teacher. This is indeed an Inclusive school.

The school community is working together and shares a single aim: to give every child the best possible chance in life. In order to do this, it is working towards becoming more reflective about its practice. It has the advantage of a staff who sees itself as a team: one member said, “This is a formidable, mouldable staff”, still growing together as the school moves forward.

International Schools Award

posted 24 Nov 2013, 06:35 by Stephen Eccles   [ updated 24 Nov 2013, 06:45 ]

In September 2012 we were awarded the Full International Schools Award to recognise the outstanding opportunities we provide our pupils.

I am delighted to inform you that Barton Primary School has been successful in gaining the International School Award and is accredited for three years from 1 September 2012 to 31 August 2015.

Here are panel’s comments on your application:

The E-Twinning project - Close Friends from Afar - is very good with good use being made of the twinspace. Very good embedded collaborative work with several schools. Other BC programmes are involved - Comenius, Comenius assistant - which is very good. Lots of other awards - Artsmark, Eco-Schools, ICT Quality Mark. Very impressed with the European element of the application.

Congratulations on working so hard to co-ordinate such an impressive range of work as the International Co-ordinator. You are a credit to the school and the wider community.

Financial Management Standard Award

posted 13 Nov 2013, 03:51 by Stephen Eccles   [ updated 13 Nov 2013, 08:25 ]

Barton Primary School was one of the first primary schools in Torbay to be awarded the Financial Management Standard in 2008, this award was renewed for a further three years in 2011.

To achieve this standard the school had to go through a rigorous evaluation by external auditors in 5 specific areas:

• Leadership and Governance
• People Management
• Policy and Strategy
• Partnership & Resources
• Processes

We did so well that we held group discussions with other primary schools to help them achieve this standard too. This award has now been replaced by the Schools Financial Value Standard (SFVS) and we are constantly striving to ensure that we achieve this next requirement for 2014.

Well done and thank you to everyone involved.
