Anode Harvest Festival Donations

A big thank you to everyone for their generous donations. The weight of food donated by Barton Hill Academy will feed 36 desperately needy people for 3 days.
A fantastic effort made by all.

European Quality Label
Mrs Farrell and Mrs Bell have been working hard to achieve the European Quality Label through E Twinning, www.etwinning.net, organised in the UK by the British Council.
The European award is for excellent work in the e-twinning project "Friendship and Language". The work has been recognised at the highest European level! Well done Mrs Farrell, Mrs Bell and to all who have contributed to this label. Please look for it in our new entrance area.

Friends of Barton Spooky Disco

Thank you to all parents, Friends of Barton and staff who helped make this evening such a success for all the children.
A special thank you to Nathan Marshall for the use of his DJ equipment and Mr Grimley for organising the event.
Book Fair

We are pleased to advise the book fair took a total of £674.42.
Happy reading!
Academy Praise

Recently a member of the Local Authority praised our pupils on their outstanding behaviour around the school and in the classrooms.
Well done everyone!
Slippers

Thank you to everyone who has provided slippers. The children are taking great care of them.

A Message from our Family Support Worker

Hi everyone,
Some of you may already know that I am the (not so new) FAMILY SUPPORT WORKER; Maria Evans. I am now situated in the school canteen block. I will be around every weekday morning from 8.30-9.00am for DROP IN, so please come up and have a cuppa with the occasional biscuit! Friday mornings are for parent classes. Hints and tips, ideas and strategies ...general support and again biscuits! Come and say hello........ It's good to talk!
Flagship Inclusion Award

We recently attended a ceremony held in London’s Pall Mall on October 1st to be presented with the Flagship Inclusion Award.
This award is led by Mrs Farrell and has been a culmination of much hard work by the staff and children. It is a testament to the philosophy at Barton Hill Academy that "every child matters". We are very pleased to receive this award.
Parking Sensibly

Some of our neighbours from the Beechfield development have complained that some parents are parking across driveways and making it difficult for residents to leave their homes. Please park sensibly and courteously with thought for others. We all have to share the roads.
Friday 15th November is Children In Need day

We are holding a non-school uniform day, we ask for a small donation to support this cause.
Anti Bullying week

Anti-Bullying week is 18th November – 22nd November 2013. During this time each child will participate in an assembly about being kind to others and the behaviour we expect to see at Barton Hill Academy. We are also purchasing a blue wrist band for each child. We thought it would be a nice reminder about how we behave towards one another.
Torbay Council Applications

Primary school applications: The online system will be available from 1 November 2013 to 15 January 2014.
Torbay Contacts:
Education helpline: 01803 208908
Online application: www.torbay.gov.uk/schooladmissions

Labelling

Please ensure all your child’s clothes are labelled. We are still finding unnamed belongings.
Also please label all money envelopes with your child’s full name and class before putting in the post boxes around the school. Envelopes are available.
Sad News

We are sad to inform you that Mrs Katie Charlesworth has passed away after a long courageous battle. Katie was a well-liked mealtime assistant and mother to Brooke and Cayden. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.
Parents Forum
Everyone is invited to attend the first parent’s forum at Barton Hill Academy on Friday 22nd November at 2.30-3.10pm in the school canteen. The forum will be discussing the current educational policy and any ideas you wish to share with the school leadership team. We look forward to seeing you there.
